What does landscaping a garden cost in 2026?

All guide prices in one place: per project, per element and the factors that decide where you land in the band.

Having a complete garden landscaped in 2026 has a guide price of € 5,000 to € 25,000 — from design and earthworks to paving, planting and lighting. A bare new-build garden usually starts at the lower end; a large garden with a natural-stone patio, a planting plan and lighting runs towards the top.

The individual elements have their own band. Paving and a patio cost € 2,000 to € 15,000, depending on area and material. Planting and borders sit at € 500 to € 5,000. Want a plan on paper first? A garden design costs € 300 to € 1,500 — often offset wholly or partly if you also have the garden built. If the garden is boggy, drainage and water management adds € 750 to € 5,000, and that work belongs below ground, before the visible layer.

Besides the size, three things move the price most: the chosen materials (concrete slabs are cheapest, ceramic, natural stone and clay pavers cost more), the amount of earthworks (excavating, raising and removing soil and old paving on a renovation) and accessibility — if everything must go through the house or over the fence, hauling in and out costs far more time. Randstad rates additionally run 10-20% higher.

Always request multiple quotes and set them against the price index. Look not only at the final price but at what it includes: the earthworks, the fall for the rainwater, the plant size and whether removing soil is counted in. That way you compare like with like instead of a bare figure.
