A garden design puts the garden on paper before a spade goes into the ground: the layout, the walking routes, the place of the patio and borders, the levels and the materials. That prevents expensive mistakes during the build and lets you choose calmly — a wrongly laid patio is not easily moved.

A sketch design with the broad strokes sits at the lower end; a full design with measurements, a 3D visualisation and a planting plan runs towards the top. Many landscapers offset the design fee wholly or partly if you also have them build the garden — ask about it.
